We deal with two types of crickets in this area. The first is the common, black Field Cricket. They are found in mulch, leaf litter, and weeds around the foundation of homes and can find their way into basements, crawl spaces, and garages. Exterior treatment, along with reducing harborages, is the best way to combat this noisy pest.
The Cave, or Camel Cricket, is a rather unusual looking creature that most people describe as a cross between a cricket and a spider. It has a tan color, hump-backed appearance, and long rear legs and antennae. This cricket feeds on microscopic molds and is usually found in basements and crawl spaces where moisture conditions exist. Treatment can be performed to reduce populations, but the underlying moisture conditions that attract them must be addressed as well.
